Brett McCormick, who fractured two vertebrae in the huge crash he suffered on Sunday at Assen, will make a full recovery, according to updates on the Canadian's website posted by his father last night and earlier today. McCormick is recovering well, and will be moved to either Italy or Canada, before being assessed whether any surgery is required to stabilize his fractured vertebrae. Below is the update posted on McCormick's website:
Monday, April 23, 2012
We are still at Assen hospital, but Brett will be able to transport in a day or two.
We will then travel to Italy and/or home to Canada.
If Brett requires surgery it will be at that time.
He's in good spirits and Lucca (engineer) is with us.
Thanks again for all the positive support!
Brett really appreciates it!!!
Grant.
After the opening of hostilities in the black of the desert night in Qatar, the 2012 MotoGP season gets underway for real – or at least, what feels like for real – this weekend in Jerez. The paddock finally full, not of Nissen huts, but of sleek and shiny hospitality units and race trucks; the stands full of fans, and spread all around the track, not huddled together at one end of Qatar's single grandstand; the bikes displaying their natural glory in daylight, not the fluorescent glare of Qatar's admittedly spectacular floodlit goldfish bowl.
The track is familiar to all. We were here just a month ago, for the final IRTA test ahead of the season, and everyone has had a chance to find a decent setup for the track. Fastest man during the test was also the fastest man at Qatar, though arm pump prevented Casey Stoner from capitalizing on that speed, his title rival Jorge Lorenzo taking advantage to secure a well-deserved victory.

“We are working on the development of electronic devices in the motor. Things like this are not met in Moto2. I hope I have given the correct data to the Suter and BMW,” he concluded.

Weekend favourites Sam Lowes and Broc Parkes were the first riders to make an impression on the wet track, but as the session went on, it got drier, throwing some unfamiliar names to the top of the leader board. Lorenzo Lanzi was the man who put in fast times, lap after lap, at the end of the session while Lowes managed to remind us he's fast, wet or dry.

Injury-wise, it has been a treacherous season in the World Superbike paddock so far this year. While everyone patiently waits for good news about Joan Lascorz, this weekend another ride has suffered a neck injury: Canada’s Brett McCormick. Crashing in Race 2 at Assen, the Effenbert Liberty Racing rider was immediately attended to by the circuit’s medical center, where it was deemed he had suffered trauma to his cervical spine (the same area Lascorz injured), …

Championship leader Carlos Checa (Althea Racing) is all set to return to the historic TT circuit of Assen, where round 3 of the World Superbike Championship is taking place this coming weekend.
Ducati’s home track of Imola was the setting for Round 2 of the championship, which took place just over a fortnight ago. Carlos could not have done better in front of what he considers to be his adoptive home crowd, beating off competition, in the form of Sykes on the Kawasaki, to power his Ducati 1198 to a double win, and 50 precious championship points.
Last year at Assen, Carlos celebrated success with a race win and a third place finish so both the rider and team will be hoping for similar results at this particular circuit, well aware that other, trickier tracks for the Ducati are looming.
Carlos Checa: “Imola was a really fantastic event that couldn’t have gone better for me! I’m really happy with how it went, also because those points gained are vital for the championship. Now we must turn our attentions to Assen, where I hope to make two strong races before we head to Monza – that will undoubtedly be more difficult for the Ducati. Last year we did well at the TT circuit, a win and a third place – we’ll be aiming for similar results again this time around.”

The practice session started very slowly with no-one willing to waste time on a drying track, but as the riders went out, it seemed that the BMWs had found conditions that suited their electronic package: Northern Europe's grey weather. As the track got drier and the laps got quicker, familiar names started creeping to the top, ending the session with the only man able to beat Tom Sykes's fastest time was Sykes himself in a last-lap flier to the flag. Previous winners Jonathan Rea and Carlos Checa were split by Marco Melandri hinting at another potential BMW challenge on a track that traditionally favours Ducati and Honda.
Superpole should be interesting.

In a role-reversal, Race 2 at Assen for World Superbike got underway with clear skies, and a Dutch track with only a few wet spots left to dry. With tire choice proving to be a critical component in the second race, the WSBK field ran the gamut with slicks, intermediates, and even full-wets making it onto the grid for the start. Lining up another exciting race, the fans in attendance were well-rewarded for enduring the …

After the incident at the second Salucci that makes his team was in position to-29, Rossi driving a Ferrari 458 which may slightly improve the position, which is at No. 18.

Although the weather at the time the race is uncertain, Rossi stated that he would not mind to follow the other enduro races.

To improve the system, I have to turn off the engine when in a straight line. We will check our calendar, and I would be happy if you get a chance to race again, “added the 33-year-old rider.

Nicky Hayden is to spend Wednesday and Thursday testing the Ducati GP12 at Mugello. The American is to make up for the time he lost over the winter, after injuring himself first at Valencia, and then riding indoor flat track at home in Kentucky. Those injuries limited Hayden's time working on the set up of his GP12 at the Sepang tests, and so the American is to spend the next two days concentrating on making up for lost time.
The real test work will be done by Ducati's official test rider Franco "Iron Frank" Battaini. The Italian veteran is evaluating new parts for the GP12, and once he has given them the seal of approval, they will be passed to Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi for further evaluation, before being used at a race weekend.
